How to read a Venus Descendant line
Venus DC and Venus DSC name the same setting line. Here is how to find it in Sunward Atlas, read a city distance, and understand what an interpretation can and cannot establish.
What does Venus DC or DSC mean?
DC and DSC are two abbreviations for the Descendant, or setting angle. A Venus Descendant line marks geographical positions where the center of Venus was setting on the geometric horizon at the birth moment used for the map. This is a calculated sky position, not a measurement of relationships at those places.
In astrological interpretation, Venus is often associated with relating, pleasure and aesthetics, while the Descendant frames one-to-one encounters and partnerships. Helena Woods describes Venus on the DC in this interpersonal context and contrasts it with Venus on the AC, which she frames around the person’s own expression. These are attributed symbolic readings, not evidence that meeting a partner or having an easier relationship is likely at a particular location.
How do I find my Venus Descendant line?
Enter a recorded birth date, accurate local time and birth city, then generate a new map. Select “Love & connection.” In this version, that theme selects Venus DSC, so the map and the candidate-city list refer to that one line. Open a city to read its line label and distance; use the label rather than guessing from the line’s color or shape.
The birthplace supplies the time zone needed to resolve the birth instant. The destination list is a shortlist from a supplied city set, not a search for every location worldwide. If a place does not appear, this interface has not ranked it for you; absence is not a negative result. “All themes” combines six selected lines, so check the planet-and-angle label before assuming a city there matched Venus DSC.

A calculated example: the same line at different birth times
Use the synthetic input 1995-06-15 at 09:30 in Asia/Shanghai and select Love & connection. Los Angeles is about 77 km from Venus DSC; Tijuana is about 99 km away. These are shortest modeled surface distances from city coordinates to the line, not relationship scores or predictions.
Keep the date and Shanghai time zone fixed but change the birth time to 09:40, then recalculate. Los Angeles becomes about 131 km from the Venus DSC line. At 10:30, its distance becomes about 1,133 km, while Vancouver is about 109 km away. The same planet-and-angle label does not fix a line’s geography when the input moment changes.

Is Venus DC the same as Venus AC, MC or IC?
No. The planet is the same, but the angle identifies a different sky position: AC/ASC is rising, DC/DSC is setting, MC is the upper meridian and IC is the lower meridian. Woods describes different interpretive emphases for these four Venus angles. Her account also considers the natal chart; a line label alone is not a complete reading.
The calculation engine can derive 28 lines for seven bodies and four angles, but the current thematic interface exposes only 6 selected lines. Venus DSC is its Venus selection. This page does not imply that you can switch to Venus AC, MC or IC in the current controls, or that this tool calculates parans or a relocated natal chart.
What should I do with a Venus DSC result?
Treat the symbolic reading as a question you may explore, such as whether a place offers communities, collaborations or shared activities you already value. A small trial visit or conversation can provide ordinary, observable information; the map cannot guarantee romance, compatibility, safety or an easier life.
Check the birth record and time zone before comparing maps. Keep the actual distance beside the line label, and investigate practical conditions such as cost, accessibility, work, visas and support. A smaller number is only greater modeled proximity to this line; there is no scientifically established distance at which a relationship effect begins.
