What do astrocartography lines mean?
Read a line as a pair: the celestial body identifies an astrological theme, and the angle describes its astronomical position at that location. Venus DSC and Venus MC therefore name different lines, even though they share a planet.
The four angles describe positions in the sky
ASC (also written AC) and DSC (also written DC) mark rising and setting on the geometric horizon. MC and IC mark the upper and lower meridian. Sunward Atlas calculates these using geocentric celestial positions at the birth instant. The astronomical description tells you what a line represents before any life theme is attached to it.
The MC is an upper-meridian crossing, not necessarily a body directly overhead. A line’s appearance on a flat map also does not define its meaning: the meridian lines appear vertical, while rising and setting lines often curve. Read the label rather than inferring an angle from color or shape alone.

Interpret the planet and angle together
Traditional symbolism associates Venus with relationships and aesthetics, Mercury with communication, Saturn with structure, and Jupiter with expansion and learning. The angle adds context. Venus DSC can suggest reflection on relating to others; a different Venus angle would place the same planetary symbolism in another context.
These meanings are interpretive language, not measured forces or demonstrated effects. “Saturn” does not establish that a place will be harsh, and “Venus” does not establish that it will be easy. A useful reading asks a specific question about your needs and choices instead of assigning a permanent good or bad label to a city.
The lines selected by the current themes
The engine calculates 28 lines from seven supported bodies and four angles. The current interface deliberately uses 6 thematic lines. These are transparent product choices, not a claim that other planet-and-angle combinations do not exist. “All themes” shows this selected set.

Apply the label to a calculated example
Use the synthetic birth input 1995-06-15 at 09:30 in Asia/Shanghai. In Love & connection, Los Angeles is about 77 km from Venus DSC. In Learning & growth, Tijuana is about 259 km from Jupiter ASC. The different labels explain why these results invite different questions even though both were calculated for the same instant.
For Los Angeles, the reflection might concern collaboration or a shared-interest community. For Tijuana, it might concern a course or a new perspective. The city distances do not compare the likelihood of those experiences. The useful part is turning a broad symbol into a question that you can investigate through ordinary, observable choices.
Know which layers are outside this map
Sunward Atlas currently calculates the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Mars is part of the engine’s calculation but is not selected by the current thematic display. Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, lunar nodes, parans, relocated natal charts, and transits are outside this version’s calculation profile.
A visible crossing of drawn lines should therefore not be described as a calculated paran or a complete relocation-chart reading. Start with the supported line label, confirm the birth information, and read the distance definition. If you compare another service, check its bodies, angles, horizon model, and time-zone handling before assuming different results are errors.
